Meet our Pastor and Staff:

  • Sara Yotter

    Pastor

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Exciting.

Here’s a milestone from my journey:  When I look back, I can now see that at age 7, I wanted to be a pastor.  My mom would tell me not to say the pastor’s parts out loud in church;  now almost 30 years later, I say those parts every Sunday.

When I have a free day, I love to: go geocaching (digital treasure hunting) with my husband and son, go for a hike or a bike ride, or even go jeeping.  I also love to entertain and cook tasty things for friends and family.  Or sometimes a lazy day on the couch snuggling with our dogs and watching a movie.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: making paper airplane with the kids during worship.  During a children’s sermon, we made a paper airplane, that turned into a rocket that finally popped up into a cross to remind us that only God’s love can get us to heaven.

  • Lenore Liller

    Music Director

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Love.

Here’s a milestone from my journey: I have grown spiritually here at Joy Reigns. I have been worship leader, I have prayed in public (wow!) and I became the music director. I guess I would say that being the music director would be the milestone. I never would have imagined it, and it's been a truly wonderful experience! I love my job and the people I "work" with so very much, I am really very blessed!

When I have a free day, I love to: There are a lot of things I love to do!  I love to spend time with my family and my friends. Just hanging out on our deck or going out to a restaurant are all things I enjoy. The thing I love the most is spending time with my granddaughter, Olivia, though.  There's nothing better than hearing that sweet little voice say "I love you MiMi!"

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: So many stories! The one that comes to mind right now is when the Praise team went to a church in Frederick to participate in a worship service. We were all wearing black shirts and khaki pants. After the service we walked to a nearby restaurant to have dinner together. As the hostess showed us to our seats, the entire restaurant stared at us. I'm not sure what they were thinking of all these strangers dressed alike and walking into their restaurant. It was pretty funny!

  • Ali Purvis

    Youth Leader

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Praise.

Here’s a milestone from my journey: I was asked to be part of the Call Committee tasked with choosing the next pastor. It was a difficult time of transition for all of us. Learning to pray and wait was a real lesson in hearing God's voice. When I met Pastor Sara I knew she would be the one to lead us all into the next chapter of Joy Reigns.

When I have a free day, I love to: spend it with my family - biking, swimming, skiing, hiking - anything outside!

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: John Hilbert showing the congregation Joy Reigns' connection with Pastor Sara that was already in place before we officially called her.  Her Facebook page included a picture of her friend Pastor Matthew in our church when he had interned here many years ago. I guess God knew where she was going all along. God is Good!

  • Michelle Poole

Joy Thrift Coordinator and Council Treasurer

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Family

Here’s a milestone from my journey: Helping others who are in need has made me realize how much they actually help me by letting me help them.

When I have a free day, I love to: play with the grandkids.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: While making prayer shawls and blankets for others at Joy Reigns, I am able to be closer to God while bringing his love to others.

  • Sonya Connolly

    Office Administrator & Volunteer Coordinator

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Alive.

Here's a milestone from my journey:  Growing up Catholic, we never really prayed out loud, except when reciting The Lord's Prayer and Hail Mary at Mass and before bedtime. Small groups at Joy Reigns have been part of my experience here since the early days, when we still met in the school to worship on Sundays.  After several years of watching and hearing, I feel more comfortable speaking praises and making specific prayer requests to God aloud. It has been a valuable part of my deepening faith journey and I'm thankful for the gift of being challenged to change.

When I have a free day, I love to: kayak or walk.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: The early nomadic history is pretty incredible, and I was blessed to be a part of that while working in the office. We moved from school to school to school, had an office and Global Gift store, and then rented and eventually bought the current church buildings. It is amazing that so many original members are still so deeply committed to this congregation after so much traveling.  Whew!

Meet our Church Council Members:

  • Naomi Talbott

    President

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Community.

Here's a milestone from my journey: The milestone that jumps out at me right now is the fact that I am the President of our Congregation! It took a lot of soul searching and questioning before I accepted this position. First, I thought of all the things that "I am Not!" I was comparing myself to past presidents who are very capable businesspersons, or speakers, or financial gurus!! I thought, "What do I have to bring to Joy Reigns compared to this? As I was praying and pondering, I thought of Jesus' disciples. They were ordinary people. They were not the most educated, nor were they people in high powered positions. They were fishermen. But Jesus knew that they were men of faith. They were not perfect. They were not what we might expect of people who were going to be on the ground floor of this new movement! But Jesus knew that He could use them! He knew that they might first have to understand their weaknesses before they could trust in His strength, but they would get there!! After all, it was Jesus’ strength, not theirs that was important! So I thought, if Jesus could use these ordinary people for His great work, maybe he can use me too! So here I am! Use me, Lord!!

When I have a free day, I love to: read, ride my motorcycle or escape on a boat.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: When Pastor Sara was called to be pastor of our church, she asked, "What does Joy Reigns mean?" I guess she wondered, does everyone there have to walk around with a smile on their face all the time like everything is always perfect? I think that she wanted to know if we are fake or genuine. I remember the discussion about a name for our church. Joy Reigns means that no matter what our circumstances (and no, they are not all good!), joy can reign in our hearts and lives because of Jesus! We trust that He is in control, not us! But also very important is that we make ourselves vulnerable enough to share of our weaknesses and failings that we might be strengthened and lifted up by one another! There goes that "community" thing again! This is why I love Joy Reigns! We are continuing to grow into the kind of people that Jesus wants us to be--people that care for one another and have Joy Reign-ing in our hearts because of Jesus!

  • Dave Emminizer

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Stay tuned. As treasurer, Dave is busy managing our finances. This will be updated soon!

  • Jen Molina-Mabe

    Media Specialist & Outreach Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Home.

Here's a milestone from my journey: Becoming a member of the praise team was a milestone for me. Since I walked into Joy Reigns, the music captured my attention and my heart, and becoming someone who helps provide that music has been extremely rewarding.

When I have a free day, I love to: Sleep! Or relax, however that comes. I have a crazy work schedule, so given the opportunity, relaxation is definitely something I cherish.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: The first time I walked into the building is my favorite memory. From that very first moment I felt welcomed, loved and embraced by a church community, and that was something that I hadn't felt in a long time. It was like coming home.

  • Tom Fullerton

    Property Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Home.

Here’s a milestone from my journey: While traveling in Israel many years ago with a colleague and mentor, he posed a simple question about faith. We had been to many important historic places that day and the question was "How can someone not believe when we see how much this man, Jesus, did to change the world for the better?" Perhaps it was the setting and the day and my respect for my friend, but it helped lift a heavy burden of doubt and free me to choose faith.

When I have a free day, I love to: goof off with our grandkids and romp with the granddog!

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: our long road from a starting as tiny spin-off mission church ten years ago to being a full-fledged, growing church today. God was there every step of the way. He always answered - and answers - our prayers for Joy Reigns!

  • Kenneth Graham

    Adult Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Community.

Here's a milestone from my journey: I think one of the most significant milestones for me since I started attending Joy Reigns is becoming a Worship Leader. The ability to stand up in front of the congregation and share my faith has been incredible. It has truly deepened my relationship with Jesus Christ and taken me places that I never thought I would go.

When I have a free day, I love to: be on the water. It really does not matter if it is in a kayak, on a jet ski or on a boat -- it is all about being on the water!

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: I have many stories about Joy Reigns, but probably my favorite is when the Pastor asked if she and her husband could come and visit me and my partner our home. This happened on the first Sunday we attended church at Joy Reigns. She showed up and we had a terrific dinner and we have been members since. It really showed me how eager she and so many others were to have us be a part of the congregation. She and many others have continually reinforced that all are welcome at God’s table.

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: WELCOME.

Here's a milestone from my journey: Wanting and needing to be in worship each week.

When I have a free day, I love to: boating on the Chesapeake!

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: Recently we had a series of Baptisms in the church.  When I was talking with one of the Moms from church the following Monday, she told me her daughter was circling the neighborhood “baptizing” all the kids telling them they need to know Jesus!  Amen.
