Meet our Pastor and Staff:

  • Sara Yotter

    Pastor

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Exciting.

Here’s a milestone from my journey:  When I look back, I can now see that at age 7, I wanted to be a pastor.  My mom would tell me not to say the pastor’s parts out loud in church;  now almost 30 years later, I say those parts every Sunday.

When I have a free day, I love to: go geocaching (digital treasure hunting) with my husband and son, go for a hike or a bike ride, or even go jeeping.  I also love to entertain and cook tasty things for friends and family.  Or sometimes a lazy day on the couch snuggling with our dogs and watching a movie.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: making paper airplane with the kids during worship.  During a children’s sermon, we made a paper airplane, that turned into a rocket that finally popped up into a cross to remind us that only God’s love can get us to heaven.

  • Lenore Liller

    Music Director

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Love.

Here’s a milestone from my journey: I have grown spiritually here at Joy Reigns. I have been worship leader, I have prayed in public (wow!) and I became the music director. I guess I would say that being the music director would be the milestone. I never would have imagined it, and it's been a truly wonderful experience! I love my job and the people I "work" with so very much, I am really very blessed!

When I have a free day, I love to: There are a lot of things I love to do!  I love to spend time with my family and my friends. Just hanging out on our deck or going out to a restaurant are all things I enjoy. The thing I love the most is spending time with my granddaughter, Olivia, though.  There's nothing better than hearing that sweet little voice say "I love you MiMi!"

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: So many stories! The one that comes to mind right now is when the Praise team went to a church in Frederick to participate in a worship service. We were all wearing black shirts and khaki pants. After the service we walked to a nearby restaurant to have dinner together. As the hostess showed us to our seats, the entire restaurant stared at us. I'm not sure what they were thinking of all these strangers dressed alike and walking into their restaurant. It was pretty funny!

  • Sonya Connolly

    Office Administrator & Volunteer Coordinator

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Alive.

Here's a milestone from my journey:  Growing up Catholic, we never really prayed out loud, except when reciting The Lord's Prayer and Hail Mary at Mass and before bedtime. Small groups at Joy Reigns have been part of my experience here since the early days, when we still met in the school to worship on Sundays.  After several years of watching and hearing, I feel more comfortable speaking praises and making specific prayer requests to God aloud. It has been a valuable part of my deepening faith journey and I'm thankful for the gift of being challenged to change.

When I have a free day, I love to: kayak or walk.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: The early nomadic history is pretty incredible, and I was blessed to be a part of that while working in the office. We moved from school to school to school, had an office and Global Gift store, and then rented and eventually bought the current church buildings. It is amazing that so many original members are still so deeply committed to this congregation after so much traveling.  Whew!

  • Kelly Purnell

Joy Thrift Volunteer and Recovery Program Coordinator

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Acceptance

Here’s a milestone from my journey: When we moved here, we went what I call “church shopping.” Having always attended a larger, more traditional style church, I wasn’t so sure about the smaller contemporary style service. And there was no hiding in the back. But my kids asked if we could stop shopping and go back and that’s what we did. Over the last 5 years, I have grown to love the music and the opportunity to be a part of a smaller church community… and we aren’t afraid to sit up front anymore!

When I have a free day, I love to: read, cook or bake, and spend time on the South River in the summer. Any time I can spend with my husband and our four boys all together is always appreciated.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: When we first started attending JRC, I enrolled my oldest son in confirmation classes, not realizing the extent of the commitment (3 years of middle school.) After the first year, classes went from twice/month to mostly weekly classes. I was waiting for him to complain and say it was too much. (I may have been thinking that as well.) He didn’t even bat an eye at me. He and his brother willingly and proudly made it through 3 years of confirmation classes, each confirmed at the end of 8thgrade. My 3rd son is currently in confirmation classes now and, just like his brothers, he enjoys his time spent in them!

  • Jen Molina-Mabe

    Media Specialist & Outreach Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Home.

Here's a milestone from my journey: Becoming a member of the praise team was a milestone for me. Since I walked into Joy Reigns, the music captured my attention and my heart, and becoming someone who helps provide that music has been extremely rewarding.

When I have a free day, I love to: Sleep! Or relax, however that comes. I have a crazy work schedule, so given the opportunity, relaxation is definitely something I cherish.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: The first time I walked into the building is my favorite memory. From that very first moment I felt welcomed, loved and embraced by a church community, and that was something that I hadn't felt in a long time. It was like coming home.

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Embracing

Here's a milestone from my journey: When I decided it was time to come back to church, I wound up at Joy Reigns due to a navigational error. I walked through the doors and felt immediately that this is a place where I could actually belong. I never left and I believe that God had a hand in my life that day.

When I have a free day I love to: crochet!! I can also be found curled up with a cat in my lap, reading a book. Every so often I take an adventure to Baltimore and walk around the Inner Harbor, or walk around downtown Annapolis in the summers. Although this year I will likely be putsing around fixing up my '99 Jeep Wrangler.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: When we read the Pentacostal reading in four different languages! It was so neat to imagine being there as the disciples spoke in tongues in the native language of those that heard it. It has been amazing to get to know people better every time I see them.

  • Tina Moreland

    Outreach Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is:  Accepting

Here's a milestone from my journey: Watching and learning from my own kids about giving freely...Just how they KNEW they were to give what little they have -- which is really just the change they find -- and put it in the offering plate...How this was something valuable to them...Not the thing they could buy with that change, but the value the saw in giving it away...Witnessing that has really opened my heart and made me take stock in where I find value and whether I invest in it with my whole heart...That has been a long journey for me and one I continue to work on.

When I have a free day, I love to: craft and volunteer.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: There are so many favorite things about being in this loving family of Joy Reigns but I will say that first Christmas we attended Joy Reigns and James, our oldest who was in 5th grade at the time, was asked to play Joseph in the Christmas play. Amy, our daughter was also asked to play a part. We had only been attending about a month or two when he was asked and that made all of us feel even more welcomed and loved. That newcomers were genuinely wanted to participate as any regular member. It's not easy in this day to feel accepted into an established community and certainly not so fast. We've felt nothing but love from our church family since.

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Fun

Here's a milestone from my journey:  My involvement with the church...stepping outside my comfort zone with greeting, communion and eventually being on council

When I have a free day, I love to:  do whatever moves me at that moment....garden, swim, do nothing or bug my husband and kids.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: Building stronger relationships with church members through our mission trips.

  • Debby Kaempf

    Worship Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Inclusive (lovingly)

Here's a milestone from my journey:  For someone who grew up singing in traditional church choirs, joining the Praise Band and singing with a microphone was a huge change for me.  I've even learned that it's okay to clap in church!

When I have a free day, I love to:  be outside, whether it's working in my garden, enjoying the birds from my deck, or hiking in the mountains.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is:  I love the way little kids are welcomed as part of the service. They dance in the aisle, bounce to the music, or are so engaged with Pastor Sara's Time for Children.  One of my favorites was their reaction to Pastor Sara's adaptation of "Baby Shark" to the Christmas story.  Pure Joy Reigns!

  • Mary Bredbenner

    Property Ministry

One word that sums up Joy Reigns is: Welcoming

Here’s a milestone from my journey: I was writing a script for a skit about Reformation at JRLC. In researching Martin Luther, I read that God knows we're not perfect and loves us anyway, just as we are. I cried, I was so overwhelmed with relief.

When I have a free day, I love to: Take my dogs to the dog park.

My favorite story about Joy Reigns is: Too many to choose from!
