We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. For us as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), this faith comes through the good news of Jesus Christ and gives us the freedom and the courage to wonder, discover and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world. Liberated by our faith, we embrace you as a whole person — questions, complexities and all.
As members of the ELCA, we believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. With our hands, we do God’s work of restoring and reconciling communities in Jesus Christ’s name throughout the world.
We believe that we are saved by the grace of God and our salvation is through faith alone. We experience God’s grace in the waters of Baptism and at the table when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. We need only to believe that on the cross Jesus died for our sins and for his sake, God forgives us all our sins and offers us the gift of eternal life. The joy-filled life comes when we live as his disciples in the world.
We recognize the wider fellowship of churches and are eager to work alongside them in ecumenical ministries and projects. For more information about what we believe as Lutherans, please visit the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America or the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the ELCA.
